Mesothelioma

Mesothelioma is a very aggressive form of cancer caused by asbestos exposure. When a person breathes in asbestos fibers, some of these particles remain inside, and irritates the lungs. Over time, they can lead to scarring and inflammation of the mesothelium - a protective covering from the chest cavity, lungs and other internal organs. This scarring can stimulate the development of malignant cancer cells.

Mesothelioma is very deadly, but often difficult to diagnose because of its unusually long latent period (up to several decades). People who were exposed to asbestos and developed mesothelioma can feel the effects until 30 to 50 years later, when the cancer has progressed to an advanced stage
